Last post from the NC mountains

A visit to the NC mountains would not be complete without a trip to a Christmas tree farm.  This one is up the road from Tracy in Bakersville (and next 3 photos)



Last Thursday (Jan. 14th) Tracy and I went for a trek up to Round Bald, which is the left of Carver's Gap along the NC/Tenn. border. Roan Mountain is to the right.

We will be leaving the mountains this coming Saturday (Jan. 23rd).  We will be back in Durham and Fuquay Varina for a few days, than to Delaware for a week or so to visit my family.  After that...find out on the next post.

Baby, it's cold outside !!  I took this moon set this morning; it was 9 degrees, with a wind chill of 9 below.

It's been over 2 weeks since the snowstorm and there is still quite a bit of snow left.  You can see that in the last photo, which was taken today.   The first 4 photos were taken a day or two after the storm.
We had another inch of snow a few days ago, an inch yesterday, suppose to get another 2 inches this coming Monday night and a widespread snow this coming Thursday.   They haven't had this much snow in 16 years.  Plus, starting today and going until at least Saturday, it will not get above freezing.  I read in the Asheville paper today that it has not been this cold this long in 3 decades.  Why are we here now ? !!!
