Big Bend National Park - Part 2
Part 1 was the first 2 days, this is the last 2 days.
As I mentioned in the previous post, Texas seems to go on forever.
Green from 'real' trees (in this photo, cottonwoods) seems to be out of place with all the tans, browns and olive greens of the desert.
Santa Elena Canyon. The Rio Grande has cut through this rock to form the canyon. Some of the walls rise as high as 1,500'.
Hiking up the canyon trail.
Always need someone in the photo for perspective.
A view of the canyon from a sand bar in the river.
Tuff Canyon Wash. This is formed by the rains from thunderstorms. Must be quite a sight considering how deep the 'canyon' is.
Another hiking trail. This time the Burro Mesa Pouroff (what's a pouroff - haven't a clue)
Walking back to the car after hiking the pouroff.
Lunch was waiting at the end of the hike !!
A panoramic view from the Sotol Vista Overlook (sotol are the green plants with the spikes). About 1/4 of the way from the left you can see the Santa Elena Canyon in the far background mountain. It is about 20 miles from the Vista.

ReplyDeleteThey really show off the scale of the scenery!
